What does it mean to you to have the Holy Spirit in your life?
We know that on the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit came upon the believers in the upper room in a very powerful way. It caused them to share the Good News in all sorts of languages. Many people heard them speaking, many people understood their words, and many people came to believe. That day, those people were baptized, they started their faith journey, and they too received the Holy Spirit.
When you confessed Jesus as your Lord and Savior your sins were forgiven. This is a true statement but that is not the only thing that happened at that moment. You also received the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God came upon you in a powerful way, to live in you, and to give witness to your spirit that you are a child of God. The Holy Spirit is there to lead you, instruct you, and help you. When you don’t know how to pray the Holy Spirit is there to pray on your behalf.
If you know Jesus as your Savior then you have the Holy Spirit. These two things can not be separated. The question for us is do we listen? God is talking to us through his Spirit which is in us. Are you listening to God? Are you following his leading? Are you growing into the son or daughter that he has created and called you to be?
I ask you again, what does it mean to you to have the Holy Spirit in your life? As we approach this Pentecost Celebration this Sunday let us think about these things.
Along the Journey,
If you have not read the article about the proposed new church sign in the Out of the Winds please check it out today and be in prayer about whether or not God would have you give to this project. This is a project that will help us here at WHUMC more effectively share what God is doing here at this church with the community around us. Money continues to be donated but we need your help. Pray today as to how God will have you be part of this project.
Combined Worship Celebration
On Sunday, May 19th (Pentecost) there will be a combined worship celebration at 10am. We will be ending our Sunday School Year, honoring our students, honoring our teachers, and confirming four of our young persons who will become full members of the church. It will be quite a celebration as we are led in worship by Jodi our Music Director, our Praise Team, and our Chancel Choir. After the worship service there will be a fellowship meal to honor our Confirmands. Plan now to attend and be sure to sign up for the meal during this week’s worship service or call the church office to let us know that you are attending.
