This week I want to talk with all of you about our church finances. We have finished our first quarter and at the end of the first quarter we have received $40,518 but our expenditures have been $44,121. This means there was a $3,603 shortfall. There have been many reasons for this. Utility bills have been high, we have been tithing to the Annual Conference to pay our share of Apportionment’s, and some annual bills like Workman’s comp have come due. What I want to focus on however is that around 27 families support around 65% of the ministry here at WHUMC. I would like to ask all of you to pray about what you are giving to the Lord. Think about what you are spending on other things.
I know in my family if we go out to a restaurant it is difficult to leave without a bill of around $35. What would it look like if you gave to God what you spend at a restaurant or on your cable bill or cellphone bill. I only use these as examples not as a guide. In the Word of God we are asked to bring the Tithe into the storehouse(Church). The Tithe is 10% of what God has given to us. This is the guideline given to us by scripture. We know that not everyone can be there right now, but our hope is that we grow to this point as we grow in our discipleship. As we move into the spring of the year, please pray about the gifts you give to the Lord and make sure that your giving is in line with God’s asking.
Along the Journey,
Anyone interested in attending the Adult Retreat is invited to sign up with the church office. We will gather at 7pm on Friday, May 10th at Jumonville. We will spend Friday evening playing games, having a camp fire and getting to know each other. Saturday will be filled with a walk to the cross, a walk to green cathedral, and a study on Esther. We will look at what it means to be called of God for such a time as this. We will eat both breakfast and lunch on Saturday at the Inn. We will close our time out together by 3pm with worship and communion. If you have any questions about the retreat please see Pastor Jude. The cost of the Retreat is $65 per person. Scholarships are available. Currently there are only five rooms available.
